“The Toy as Art…”
Following the MISFITS reveal last week (find out more here), Bob Conge aka Plaseebo kindly shares details of his latest show of recent works at the Phillips Gallery, NY. Sitting alongside the very first MISFIT release (the Night Gamer Misfit), Conge will also be presenting a whole host of “Toy Shrine” gicle prints, plus a selection of new custom toys including the pictured “War Masquerades As Innocence”… Using the familiar tank design seen in Plaseebo’s recent “Dave” custom, the hand cast resin piece features a mixture of sculpting and found objects in the artist’s distinct neo-kaiju style. Painted in a mixture of neon Monster Kolor sprays and earthy washes, the grim reminder of war’s evil face has got to be one of the strongest, most thought provoking pieces from the artist yet… Touching down at the Phillips Gallery next Saturday (September 22nd), with an opening reception between 1-5pm, Recent Works will be on show until October 20th. Stay tuned for more reveals throughout the week…
“These are pieces inspired by the vivid memories of a fervent belief in the likes of Santa and Frankenstein, the tragic loss of that vibrant reality and on occasion my revulsion with the reality of today. My pieces find expression in the form of small sculptural figures in vinyl or resin and large folio limited edition prints.” -Bob Conge
