Originally seeing a couple of limited releases in resin last year, Gorgoloid‘s super-creepy Fiji Mermaid is set to make a return in sofubi courtesy of Awesome Toy soon! Based on the original sideshow oddity that was bought by an American Sea Captain from Japanese sailors in the early 1800’s, these “mermaids” were created by Asian fishermen who would stitch together taxidermy monkey and fish bodies to resemble the mythical beasts. Coming in at around 3.5″ long, Gorgoloid’s rendition has been slightly altered to fit the new medium, featuring a similar 2-part design with simplified arm and head detailing.
