Backstory//

Looking back, it is difficult to grasp Sumner only weighed a bit over 3 pounds at birth and one might wonder if overcompensation played a role in his development as neither his mother or father broke five feet or weighed nighty pounds soaking wet.

It was touch and go at first and Mr and Mrs Forward were overjoyed when they were finally able to bring little Sumner home after spending the first fifteen weeks of life in a glass case at the neonatal unit of Strong Memorial Hospital. Being their only child, they wanted him to grow up big and strong. To that end they just could not feed Sumner enough morning, noon, night, and often in between.

BIG he got, by the age of twelve, at 476 pounds and six foot eleven, he was too big to return to school in the fall. His education over, Sumner got a job flipping burgers at the local McDonalds a few blocks from his house where he slipped himself a burger for every one he cooked. Two hundred or more on a good day. By the following Spring, when Sumner was fired for stealing, he was eight feet ten and weighed 923 pounds.

Hungry all the time, Sumner’s habit of biting his fingernails progressed to nibbling bits of flesh off his fingers till bone would show through here and there. With both of his parents working three jobs each they could not keep up with the grocery bills. Sumner not only ate his parents out of house and home, when the fridge was finally empty, he ate them as well. And then the mailman and three of his neighbors coming home late at night. In the end he was too large to get out of the house and his finger nibbling eventually escalated, leading his all consuming habit to become his own demise.

The moral ? It would seem Zappa was right so many years ago when he said, “you are what you eat !”

IMG_4411

We’ve been dying to hook up with the guys at Triclops Studios for a while now, so with ToyCon UK over the weekend we took the opportunity to talk shop, grab some B.A.S.T.A.R.Ds (including the pictured ‘DumbRare’ 1/1 Drilla Killa!) and take a sneaky look at the upcoming ‘Bullet Belt’ Skinner collab… Offering up a ton of mini figures both old and new, fans were given the chance of nabbing a number of exclusive B.A.S.T.A.R.D hand paints (including the return of the uber rare Pig Buddha!), Peenut Mega B.A.S.T.A.R.Ds, the long awaited Unbox produced flexible plastic Goober and Big.B, plus the all-new line up of 12 resins! Taking the line away from it’s M.U.S.C.L.E inspired roots, the hilarious new figures instead lampoon 80’s and 90’s kid-culture, featuring a wonderfully diverse selection of designs inspired by the likes of MOTU (Man@Legs), TMNT (TMNT0rtoise & 3Bop), The Toxic Crusaders (Harmful Avenger) and Beetlejuice (Bettleman)…

Whilst it was great to see so many new figures on offer, the real star of the booth came in the form of the 10″ Bullet Belt prototype. Designed by Skinner and produced by Unbox as the first release in Triclops’ super-sized B.A.S.T.A.R.D Universe project, the incredible ‘mini’ figure is in the final stages of development, so should hopefully be heading to the shelves in the not too distant future… Stay tuned for more info on both Bullet Belt and the B.A.S.T.A.R.D ‘reboot’ general release soon!

Created as a gift for The Tarantulas, the jaw-dropping one-off piece was inspired by the infamous multi-headed Jotun Troll (a popular MIMP figure), created using various vintage action figure parts (including Star Trek arms!), a number of mini Polish bootleg He-Man heads, a gacha capsule (!) plus a copious amount of original sculpting. Painted in a rather apt ‘Faker’ inspired mix of turquoise, purple and orange, the figure features an impressive 8 points of original articulation… Ralph did mention he may consider retooling the design for a resin release, so as soon as we hear anything, you guys will be the first to know.
