Comics: Stripped Bare

Combining his love of designer toys and comics, German artist VISEone is poised to open his first ‘custom’ solo exhibition entitled ‘Comic Stripped’ at the Outland gallery, Amsterdam.

Using a wide range of toys as platforms for his creations, VISEone has based each of the designs on famous comic strips and cartoons. The top layer of the customs portray central characters from the comics, whilst their ‘stripped’ skin reveals detailed collages of the strips themselves, resulting in a very impressive homage to graphic illustration.

Along with VISEone’s customised toys, the exhibition will also be host to previews of new production toys, TUBE customs and all new Comic Stripped canvas works.

‘Comic Stripped’ runs between July 3rd – 31st at the Outland Designer Toy Shop and Gallery, Amsterdam.

A RIOT IN A JAM JAR

Controversial artist and designer James Cauty is set to open his latest exhibition today at the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, London.

“…violent disturbances served up in manageable doses like news bulletins… complex situations reduced to mantelpiece ornaments and souvenirs.”

Recreating now infamous media moments including the student protest attack on Prince Charles’s car, Ian Tomlinson’s death at the hands of the police and the throwing of a fire extinguisher off of the Millbank Tower by protestors, Cauty has also added elements of fantasy to the exhibition as well; Alongside the detailed  re-enactments of recent media stories are Cauty’s interpretations of future events, controversially including a sculpt of the hanging of Nick Clegg and the beheading of Prince Charles.

A Riot in a Jam Jar runs until 3rd July at the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, Clerkenwell, London.

The long awaited wooden interpretation of KAWS’ signature Companion character will be released this Saturday, with the limited edition of 100 initially being offered up at the Original Fake flagship store, Tokyo.

Retailing at ¥252,000 (around £1,700), Karimoku is the most expensive Companion yet. A high price to pay, yes, but the sculpt is fast becoming one of KAWS’ most desirable pieces amongst collectors.
