MAN-E-NEWS// The ‘Feelings’ plush toys from Taylored Curiosites…

Through the wonders of Twitter yesterday, we became acquainted with the enchanting world of Taylored Curiosities, an aromatherapy plush and designer toy company based in Plymouth, UK. Created by Penny Taylor of  Tiny Oyster Designs, Taylored Curiosities have produced several therapeutic plush toys under the ‘Feelings’ banner, with recent additions coming in the form of the orange ‘Wired’, royal blue ‘Afraid’, and grey mother and baby set, ‘Worried’.

Each hand made plush comes lovingly stuffed with an ‘extra squishy chubby belly’ and either a dried lavender, chamomile, or jasmin filling depending on which Feeling takes your fancy. Priced between £6-£10 plus shipping, the Feelings are available exclusively from the Taylored Curiosities store now…

“I studied Psychology alongside Alternative Therapies, specialising in Aromatherapy, for two years. Since then I have helped quite a few friends and family members through low periods of their life and depression. It was all this combined that started my obsession with trying to make a plush toy that could make a difference. I wanted to produce something that you could hold in your hand and that specialised in healing you naturally with scents. This is how the Feelings came to be.”- Penny Taylor

Displaying skills outside of the plush scene as well, Penny will also be featuring in the upcoming Heavy Metal Qee custom show with her entry 8″ Monqee pictured above. Featuring a full roster of 30 UK artists and designers including Zukaty, Run DMB, and Fadeworks, expect an official date and location announcement for the London based event on the dedicated Heavy Metal Qee site soon…

MAN-E-NEWS// ‘Gus’ resin figure from Blurble x Rampage Toys…

Jon over at Rampage Toys has recently revealed images of the final sculpt from his latest collaboration with Blurble, entitled ‘Gus’ (or Gusto). Heading for the silicone and resin vats over at the Monstre Hero studio as we speak, the beautifully designed figure sees the long awaited debut of Blurble’s characters in 3D- and here’s hoping it’s the first of many! Jon has estimated that the toy will be ready ‘sometime this Spring’, so be sure to head over to Blurble’s store for pre-orders sometime soon…

MAN-E-NEWS// Art toy in a cup: The Creature Cups…

“Creeping along the bottom of your cup, the Octopus is up to noooo good. He’ll be a little startled if you catch him, and who knows what he’s doing if you don’t.”

Whilst sifting through the stacks of cool designers and products over at Storenvy yesterday, we stumbled upon the perfect drinking untensils for the most hardened of toy fanatics- the Creature Cups. Coming individually, or as sets of 2 and 4, each 11oz Creature Cup comes with it’s own amphibious beast that slowly emerges the more you drink! Designed by Broklyn based artist, Yumi, ‘Octopus’, ‘Sea Otter’, ‘Lobster’, and ‘Crocodile’ are available for just $14.99 each, or $49.99 for the set, exclusively from Yumi’s store here

MAN-E-NEWS// ‘Lambert’ custom Kracka from UME Toys…

“Lambert loves his match – don’t try and take it off him or he’ll kick off metal dragon hidden fire style.”

Rich over at UME Toys has sent us some pics of his latest custom pieces, the first coming in the form of ‘Lambert’ the clockwork dragon. Painted in an expertly weathered bronze colour scheme, with a heap of extra sculpted detail (including a beautifully ornate clockwork key, and of course, the obligatory UME monocle and ‘tache!), the custom Kracka was created for Andy Kelly’s (@ZombieKel) forthcoming ‘Dragons Custom Toy Show’ at the Sho Gallery,Cardiff, August 18th 2012. More news on the exhibition soon…

“Come down if you can as there’s going to be many awesome artists/pieces to check out and if you’re lucky you could score a custom and help out a great cause in the process.”

Second up comes ‘Goose’, a mixed media custom sculpt created by Rich just for fun. Based on a witch doctor inspired scribble from a while back, the worm infested beauty should be available to purchase from the UME Toys store some time soon. Here’s hoping Rich will produce a line in this style at some point; the stick thin legs, instantly recognisable sculpt, and considered use of colour would surely make one awesome production figure…

MAN-E-NEWS// The Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk 8″ Dunny from Huck Gee…

Huck Gee has raised the bar once again with the reveal of his latest 8″ Dunny custom, the Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk. Coming decked out with Gee’s trademark better-than-production quality Japanese garb, bronze-infused stainless steel hatchets, and laser etched box, the custom Dunny has been limited to an edition of 10. Each figure has been signed and numbered by the artist, and are available for $750 each by contacting him directly here.

Revenge. Not a word typically found in the vocabulary of the renowned, reclusive, Golden Glorious Soaring Munks. Acting in a manner related to said word would probably be enough to find oneself no longer a member of said Golden Glorious Soaring Munks. Disgraced. Fallen. Angry. Resolved. Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk

Huck Gee adds- Going forward, we will now be draping each figure in a more appropriate archival quality fabric than what we have used in the past. Every Huck Gee custom figure will also now come padded and packaged in it’s own hand assembled and laser etched wooden box (see photo below) and then boxed within another shipping box. In addition to adding another level of finish to the completed pieces, this will hopefully further reduce the chances of shipping damages while in transit.

MAN-E-NEWS// ‘Super Fattie’ 6″ Fatcap from Queen Andrea x Kidrobot…

Dropping alongside Frank Kozik’s ‘Bondage’ Labbit this month comes the arrival of Kidrobot‘s latest 6″ Fatcap, the ‘Super Fattie’ from New York based artist, Queen Andrea. It’s been nearly 3 years since we last saw the super-sized Fatcap platform in action (Toofly’s 2009 addition was the last, I think?!), so it was a great surprise to see it in action again in such a timely fashion. Instead of re-interpreting her recent ‘Bombo’ series 3 Fatcap (which I’d also love to see in this size!), Queen Andrea has gone to town on a design full of throw-ups, retro patterns, and vivid colours that better suit the added scale. Limited to 1000 pieces (with 1 in 6 coming in the purple and gray chase colour), Super Fattie will be available from all good Kidrobot retailers from March 22nd for just $60 a piece…

MAN-E-NEWS// Turtle Tetsujin : Hinomaru Charity Special from Peter Kato…

Peter Kato has just sent over some rather interesting news regarding his latest charity based toy project- the Hinomaru Charity Special Turtle Tetsujin. As we near the 1 year anniversary of the earthquake/tsunami in Japan, the country’s people are still recovering from the effects of this catastrophe, so to show a continued effort to support their rebuilding, Peter has teamed up with My Plastic Heart (NYC toystore & gallery) & the NY Japanese American Lion’s Club Charities Inc, to insure all proceeds from the sale of these guys will be donated to the people of Japan at the affected site.

Limited to an initial run of 40 (Peter has stated that more will follow if they prove successful), each hand cast clear resin figure comes with a solid red circle signifying hinomaru: Japan flag/ rising sun embeded in its chest. Available to purchase exclusively through MPH now, the beautifully finished turtle-bot can be yours for just $25 plus shipping…

“I chose the Lion’s Club Association because they had the means to make 100% of the profits go direct to Japan. I intend to do this every year with a new figure or series to raise money for donation to the cause…”- Peter

The Hinomaru Turtle Tetsujin is actually Peter’s second Japan fundraising toy project. In a collaboration with Toy Tokyo, Peter released his first ever toy series, ‘The Pocket Powers’, at last year’s SDCC, with all the profits of the initial white/red edition going straight towards the cause. Consisting of 100 assorted 80’s inspired resin mini-figures, anyone interested in picking up the series in their OG colours should head over to Toy Tokyo, where a few batches still remain…
